ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND

i forgot how much i loved Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, it is such a personal and precious tale. the first time i saw it, i found it slightly deconstructed; the second time i saw it, it shot to my top 10 favorite movies of all time! watch-it, laugh with it, weep with it, scream at it!

LONDON + CINEMA

miss leeloo
i'm off to London on monday for two week's work which means i get to spend time with mia mamma + mi amici. another advantage of my London trips is all the movie going i get to do... in Milano, all the films are dubbed and the selection is not great (not counting Italian films in this equation of course), so when i go to London, i stage my very own film festival. this is my viewing list - here's hoping these are all currently showing:
"Please Give" by Nicole Holofcener, trailerhere."The Kids Are Alright" by Lisa Cholodenko, trailerhere.- "Mother & Child" by Rodrigo Garcia, trailer here.
"Somewhere" by Sofia Coppola, trailerhere.- "Inception" by Christopher Nolan, trailer here.
"Eat, Pray, Love" by Ryan Murphy, trailerhere.- "L'Affaire Farewell" by Christian Carion, trailer here.
- "The Extra Man" by Robert Pulcini, trailer here.
and lastly, my guilty pleasure... "Eclipse" by David Slade, trailerhere.

IO SONO L'AMORE

IO SONO L'AMORE: on paper, it's a familiar aristocratic-family-melodrama; on the screen, however, it swells and expands into a film that your eyes will want to soak-up - the Jil Sander/Fendi wardrobe, the imagery (sometimes over-the-top but accompanied by John Adams' score, it becomes something else), the cuisine. and for every moment you find yourself worrying that the film might just be eye-candy, there's another moment where you'll find yourself gaping at Tilda Swinton's immense talent.

13 Tzameti

"13 Tzameti" is one of the most brilliantly insane films i have ever seen! it's the first film by Georgian cinematographer Gela Babluani, eerily filmed in black & white, set in an obscure coastal town in France. it tells the story of a young immigrant worker, Sebastien who, in pursuit of easy money, finds himself embroiled in a world too dark to ever possibly imagine. i have never in my 31yrs experienced such an adrenaline rush from a film. head fuck galore!

OUT OF AFRICA

miss leeloo
tonight i sat down and watched (and cried to) one of my favorite movies OF ALL TIME,
Out Of Africa...
i have loved that movie since i was a child and saw it with my mother.
i remember arguing in Finch Hatton's favor
as my mother ardently supported Baroness Blixen;
i always wondered if it would come a day when i'd 'swap sides'...
that day has not come forth, yet now i just put the tragic end of the film's romance
down to the injustice of love's war vs. reality:
down to the injustice of love's war vs. reality:
two people who love each other but whose characters and desires are fundamentally different...
a war lost without the compromise (sacrifice) of one's ideals (nature).
ps: how damn cheesy & 80s is this trailer!! the porno music is cringe-worthy... they should have used one of the soundtrack tunes!

AWAY WE GO

miss leeloo
i really loved this film, it made me laugh and cry, both out loud...
V: Burt, are we fuck-ups?
B: No. What do you mean?
V: I mean we’re 34,
B: I’m 33.
V: And we don’t even have this basic stuff figured out.
B: Basic like how?
V: Basic. Like how to live.
B: We’re not fuck-ups.
V: We have a cardboard window.
B: We’re not fuck-ups.
V: (Whispered) I think we might be fuck-ups.
B: (Whispered) We’re not fuck-ups.

MISS LEELOO's TOP 10 MOVIES OF THE NOUGHTIES
Posted by
miss leeloo
all the film critics (to this day, still my dream job) from Time Out magazine London were asked to choose their top 10 movies of the noughties! i thought i would torture myself by trying to give it a go. here's my list, in no particular order as that would just be masochistic to inflict that upon myself!
- Lost in Translation
- Volver
- Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
- No Country for Old Men
- Sideways
- The Lives of Others
- I've Loved You So Long
- My Life Without Me
- The Bourne Identity
- Batman Begins
i know some of these are controversial as there are some huge films not on the list but 10 films for an entire decade so limiting...

"THE TIME TRAVELER'S WIFE"

i read the book while i was living in Sydney, it spoke to the terrible romantic in me, impossible love and all that, so very me! now the movie is out... i didn't think it would work but i love Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams, so am hoping the magic of the written word will transpire to the big screen when carried through by these two!

"RACHEL GETTING MARRIED"
Posted by
miss leeloo

i just saw a film called Rachel Getting Married. it was tragical, painful, magical and beautiful. it just ended a few minutes ago, i've just bought the soundtrack and am now blogging about it - i just didn't want the feelings it brought me to end. i won't relay the story here, i couldn't do it justice. what i will say is give the speedy beginning a chance, as you are not just a spectator but you're part of the protagonist - she's guiding you along the waves of her emotions, just let yourself be driven by her, by jonathan demme's literary way of filming; if one of the characters is reacting to a situation, mr. demme doesn't only show you their face, he chooses to film the back of the character's head, their neck, the curve of their shoulder, allowing you to imagine the expression on the character's face, allowing you to feel what they're feeling, like when reading a book; this is such a welcomed style, after continuously being told by cinema tv how we should feel, react, what we should say or not say - it's liberating! useless words & overacted expressions hold no place in this film, it's so naturally filmed, the scenes are fleeting, blending into one and other just as the workings of our overactive human minds; there's a rhythm to this movie, if you lack 'coordination' or imagination, you'll be left outside the parameters of the film.
rent it/buy it/download it, just please watch it.
