SEASON 3 OF TRUE BLOOD IS OVER!
Posted by
miss leeloo
so season 3 of True Blood is now over and i have to wait another year for AE (amnesia Eric) - in the meantime, i'll content myself with swooning over Eric clips on youtube such as this one which a friend sent me! love the Snow Patrol/Martha Wainwright tune that goes along with it.

PARENTHOOD
Posted by
miss leeloo
my mother told me the other day that i should check out the NBC show Parenthood with Peter Krause of Six Feet Under fame. it's a show about 4 brothers & sisters all with kids of their own, dealing with family life on all levels as there are 3 generations of "Bravermans" to contend with.
i've watched the first five episodes and each episode had me crying. they trigger such sadness from so deep within, i don't know how else to describe this sensation but as 'loss'. i've been mourning the loss of something i never really had, a family... feeling safe, adored, prioritized, admired, supported and again, safe. i don't know why this is, shouldn't one mourn for something that one's had then lost? not for something hypothetical. i think as a child, being part of a family was my biggest dream, one that i couldn't pursue as it was not for me to create, and over the past three years or so, i think this feeling of "loss" has slowly been coming-up to the surface in the form of my consciousness realizing that i will never have that kind of family. just writing this, i'm bawling my eyes out. i guess that's part of growing-up, coming to the conclusion that some dreams are just not meant to be and it's ok to be sad about it, to cry all over your computer about it... :(
maybe, as you read this, you may think i have idealized what it is to be a family, i guess i will never know, right now, to me it is just the star i'll never reach so i may just have to leave that wish alone and never look back, once my wound is healed that is.
i wonder what my mother thinks when she watches Parenthood, does she pine after the family she never had too?

GENERATION KILL
Posted by
miss leeloo
i'm watching Generation Kill for the 3rd time... it's one of the best shows i have ever seen! the dialogue is heart-thumpingly delicious, the actors are mind blowing and the tempo of the filming is perfection plus the political portrayal of the pointless invasion is outlined to the T. Heaven on a DVD...
Generation Kill the TV show is based on a book by Rolling Stone reporter Evan Wright who was embedded with the 1st Marines Reconnaissance Battalion during the 2003 invasion of Iraq. i have yet to read the book but the banter and camaraderie outlined by Wright and relayed in the TV show is what makes the story.
here's some dialogue excerpts i adored (there's so much more, you'll just have to watch the show):
Trombley: Hey Ray, didn't your mom put your picture up on the Wal-mart Wall Of Heroes?
Ray: Yep. My grandma did when I went to Afghanistan. I'm on the Nevada, Missouri Wal-Mart Wall of heroes. Even got my dress blues on.
Brad: If my mother ever distributed my likeness without written authorization, I would disown her
Ray: Technically speaking, Brad, but didn't your biological parents disown you when they put you up for adoption?
Brad: Point, Ray. I was one of those unfortunates adopted by upper-middle-class professionals and nurtured in an environment of learning, art, and socio-religious culture steeped in over two thousand years of Talmudic tradition. Not everyone is lucky enough to have been raised in a Whiskey Tango trailer park by a bowlegged female whose sole qualification for motherhood is a womb that happened to catch a sperm of a passing truck diver.
Ray: At least my mom took me to NASCAR!

Trombley: Sergeant, I didn't get to shoot!
Ray: That fucking sucks, Trombley. Did your recruiting officer tell you you'd get to shoot people?
Trombley: Fucking A he did!
Ray: See, Trombley asked about shooting people. I asked about pussy. The guy told me I'd get to go to Thailand and get all kinds of strange. What'd you ask about, Brad? Brad probably saw that TV commercial, the one with the knight that fucks up the dragon that turns into the Marine.
Walt: Woo woo! Dress blues with a sword!
Ray: Fucking dress blues commercial man. That got so many fucking guys. Now look at us: Trombley hasn't killed anybody, I'm half a world away from good Thai pussy, and Brad is out here rolling around fuckbutt Iraq hunting for dragons in a MOPP suit that smells like four days of piss and ball sweat. You should have rolled into battle with a sword, Brad, that would have fucking rocked!

ALEXANDER SKARSGARD - A NORDIC GOD
Posted by
miss leeloo
i must first state that i do not mean to objectify men on this blog, i just like admiring masculine beauty, and Alexander Skarsgard (1m93-6ft4!!!!!!) is definitely worth a wink & a half! i first saw him in Generation Kill which was a spectacular 7 episode tv drama on the invasion of Iraq by the Americans. then i saw him on the tv show True Blood, a completely different kind of show to Generation Kill, but since i have a penchant for delving into the sci-fi/supernatural fiction world, it's bloody entertaining! anyways, Alexander Skarsgard (son of Stellan, Swedish silver fox & actor of cult classics Breaking The Waves/Good Will Hunting) is beautiful... no?
see for yourself!

I SWEAR I READ LITERATURE TOO...

my colleagues told me that since i liked vampire novels, i should check out Charlaine Harris' "Stookie Stackhouse" series - it turns out i'd already seen the tv show, True Blood, which is based on the books (and stars Swedish hunk Alexander Skarsgard). it's Twilight for adults... but it's fab: there are vamps, fairies, shapeshifters, wolves, goblins & witches! i love stories that are set in the American south, i even put on my best southern accent while reading out loud to myself (oh the joys of being single...). i bought a couple of the audiobooks on iTunes which are amazingly narrated by Johanna Parker but i plan to buy all 9 books when i get to London and read them all holiday long. evasional bliss.
